I checked that Counterparty had Maidsafe coins in the wallet before sending and after over 30 confirmations they never arrived. So I started searching and it looks like the Maidsafe coins on Counterparty are not real Maidsafe coins??? (Mentioned at the bottom of this link) Is this why my coins are not showing up? But they are not even showing up as BTC’s either.
I can send support the blockchain info.
Is there a way for the wallet to recognize real Maidsafe coins or at least send my coins to another address?
Why did Counterparty allow fake Maidsafe coins on the exchange? (Excuse me if I’m wrong here but I’ve used the wallet for months with no problems but now feel a bit worried regarding future use.)
Thanks,
BitUser
It appears that a scammer has registered and issued the asset MAIDSAFE on the Counterparty platform. There is really nobody who can stop this kind of thing since Counterparty is a protocol and not a centralized database. The only protection is to verify that what you are buying is condoned by the project in question. It’s like typo-squatting in domain names without the ICANN to appeal to.
To masterxchange’s credit they are identifying each Counterparty token to begin with xcp but that could be improved. I’ve started to see the usage of [TOKEN NAME].XCP on the Let’s Talk Bitcoin forum to fully distinguish the token and platform name and I think the dot is important since it’s not allowed in a token name.
There is a feedback section available on the asset information tab at http://blockscan.com/assetinfo.aspx?q=MAIDSAFE#comments. This has already been updated with a few comments to indicate that this is an "fake" asset.
There are unfortunately a lot of other assets un-monitored. Hopefully over time if the community comes across any "fake" assets feedback is posted so that incidents like these can be reduced or avoided.
Thanks for the replies. My tokens are legit, I realize the ones on Counterparty are not.
But what about my coins now? What happens if other people also send their coins to the wallet?
I am trying to get some coins off of Mintpal and didn’t want to risk storing them on an exchange again. OOOPS!
There must be a way to recover my tokens, anyone?
Thx

When you say your tokens are legit, can you say how you acquired them? Do you have an Omniwallet or just a Counterwallet?

I bought them on Masterexchange. I don’t have Omniwallet, just heard of it today actually. I think Masterexchange is not the problem - it is my counterwallet not recognizing the asset (as it is on the blockchain).
Ahh, ok it’s good to research this more but hopefully Omniwallet (Mastercoin’s version of Counterwallet) supports private key import. In theory you could “Show Private Key” in Counterwallet for the address you sent the MAIDSAFE to. Then import that private key into Omniwallet. This document covers the export/import process but assumes it’s coming from Bitcoin Core instead of Counterwallet. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AJLyNFOTnHRPB435rsbLJqlMPIWp-QIsRWVrIPcKAmo/edit

I wondered about that - thanks. But, what if I have like 5 or 6 other tokens in that address? I guess I could move the other ones out first, then try to import that address into Counterwallet. Again though, shouldn’t the BTC (that is marked as Maidsafe) show up as BTC?
Update - I just checked and on the online “check” of Omniwallet, it shows the BTC AND Maidsafe coin! I will try moving my other coins to a different address first then doing the import. Great idea and thanks. I’ll let you all know how it goes.
Update 2 - That was quick. I did as described in the first update and then just imported the private key of the address now only having BTC and MaidSafe and it worked fine. Strange that I now have the same BTC in two different wallets, due to the private key import.
Thanks for the direction and help and hope this helps others.
Thanks again
