Question from a noob…Is there any place to find some information on the progress of the new smart contact (ethereum port) testing and when it might get included in the mainnet?

The devs spend most of their time on github, so you can follow the progress on the develop branch as it is uploaded: https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterpartyd
And the smart contracts should be available on mainnet by March, maybe and possibly a bit sooner.
