[Swarm] Social Media Alerts Thread

Please post a link in this thread when you notice that Counterparty has been mentioned (or should have been mentioned) online, and there’s an opportunity to respond directly.

This includes -
[li]Social media sites, like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc. [/li]
[li]Articles or blogs that have comments enabled.[/li]
[iurl=https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php/topic,353.0.html]Social Media Advocates[/iurl] - you can subscribe to this thread by clicking “Notify”, above!

GUIDANCE

When you discover a post or article that mentions Counterparty, where appropriate, try to -
[li]Gently educate and correct inaccuracies.[/li]
[li]Link to helpful resources.[/li]
[li]Add as much value to the discussion as you can.[/li]
[li]Read, and contribute to, the social media comments cheat sheet.[/li]
When you notice a post or article that doesn’t mention Counterparty (but you feel it should) simply post a short message explaining why you feel our project is important and relevant, and again, try to kick-start a great discussion. No need to try and “win” - the goal is to make connections, share information and have fun.

It’s okay to chip in if you’re not “first on the scene” - just try not to be repetitious.

In the future, we’ll also have a PR Taskforce who’ll be working to form relationships with writers and editors - they’ll also be able to monitor this thread in order to develop and pitch new articles that feature Counterparty specifically.

CoinDesk published article that doesn’t mention Counterparty.  While that technically doesn’t qualify it for this thread, I feel Counterparty should have been mentioned and more than once because the article is about prediction markets.

Example:
As to when a decentralized market for trading future predictions will be commercially deployed? That’s a bet we’re not taking money on today.
I dont’ know what’s the author’s definition of “commercially”, but if it means “you can benefit from your correct predictions”, then I know a decentralized prediction market that probably qualifies.

Well spotted.

I’ve expanded the scope of this thread to say “mentioned (or should have been mentioned)” otherwise, we’ll end up with two threads, and one is probably enough for the time being.

I noticed that someone has actually responded in the comments section and mentioned Counterparty - which is great to see - although they didn’t go as far as making the positive case for why Counterparty is relevant.

I’ve added a little guidance at the top (eventually I’ll move this out into a separate document).

Can anyone come up with a good paragraph that explains why Counterparty is as relevant to this discussion as say, Truthcoin?

A link to countersports.com could suffice (with a fine print explanation that the site is not associated with the project) - it’s a example of a real prediction market (currently working on XCP testnet) based on the Counterparty platform.

Of course it’d be better if there was a bit more than that - hopefully one of the devs will chip in

I posted a comment to that effect, which is waiting for approval -

"Prediction markets are beginning to form around the peer-to-peer speculation and hedging features offered by Counterparty. One such project, Countersports, was launched on our Testnet just a few days ago - {Link}"

This via @freedomfighter in the Bitcoin Talk Forums -

What’s a good response to the bit about “Can We Trust Centralized Exchanges?” so we can engage in the comments?

I think we’ll ultimately need a document with stock arguments and phrasing that we can copy, paste and customize. I’ll also talk to the guys about the possibility of working this into the main project messaging - it seems important.

CounterParty’s Contracts for Difference (CFD) functionality will be quite useful here.

Well spotted.

I think I might need to ask [iurl=https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php?action=profile;u=3]@cityglut[/iurl] for a paragraph that describes what we can offer in addition to CFDs, and what the future might hold.

How’s this for a starting point -

“Counterparty already offers a peer-to-peer CFD market that would allow someone to hedge against movements in the Bitcoin price using our native currency XCP. Businesses that provide services layered on top of Counterparty are coming, and will allow for complex derivatives denominated entirely in Bitcoin.”
That reads very well. Be sure to link people to https://www.counterparty.co/.

Great - pity we weren’t invited to quote. Will talk with the founders about making a list of spokespeople available on the site.

I’ve started a social media comments cheat sheet, that we can use to gather good stock responses.

We think that the following article is more relevant to Counterparty and it’s advanced features than it is to Bitcoin alone:

Perhaps we need a voice on the UK Digital Currency Association so that we can get into these debates before the press article is written. I’ll look into joining up.

I’ll be meeting one of the founders of the UK Digital Currency Association tomorrow.

Vitalik Buterin’s Bitcoin Magazine wrote this article. They managed to get in a reference to Ethereum (imagine that!) and never once mentioned Counterparty.

Can someone with a high Reddit score post this article on http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/ and then make a comment about Counterparty? I don’t have a high score or I would do it.

Edit: Someone did post it, but it was buried quite deep. Here it is. Can we get a few more comments and upvotes on it, please?
